Energy Investment

I often hear “I don’t know where you get your energy from”. I guess I’m a naturally motivated person who lives a life of purpose however- I’ve learnt the hard way where to spread that mojo!

Let’s talk drainers!

Vibe sucker; person who sprays water on your metaphoric life blaze, who sweeps up the glitter the second it spills , who tells you to turn the music down or identifies you were parked 92 minutes in a 90 minute express parking spot.

Keyboard warrior; goes out of their way to be strategically offensive, abusive, negative  and opinionated online knowing there are no real world repercussions.

Negative Nancy: the one who expects others to live by their own stringent self-inflicted boundaries and is a pro at forever giving you all the reasons why not in life.

Call them what you will, but everyone knows a drainer! The one who makes you feel exhausted at every encounter, making you long for a deep breath reset session on a Himalayan mountain top. (In blue ocean, out blue sea) but how do we protect ourselves from this?

I like to think of energy as a daily investment. Some days you have a $100 to spend, other days you might only have $10, but how you spend that is everything.

Let’s be honest – this is the only time I’ll ever be giving investment advice (my maths teachers were all vibe suckers- let’s role with that) but here’s how to safely put your dollars to good use daily!

  • What is your current daily budget? Make sure you take the time to identify this before you leave the bed each morning and you’ll have more awareness around your spend! HINT: Pace yourself!
  • Where does life require your energy to be? Identify the people, places and tasks that cost you and the ones that pay dividends on your investment and ensure your day consists of a balance of both! For example: I’ll give my all to my presentation at work because I know ill take a walk on the beach tonight and that always recharges me.
  • It’s ok to say “not today”. I’m broke and can’t afford that. Even returning a text message can cost you more than your daily budget! Often it’s the smaller things that add up and rob you of everything.
  • Anger, fear, judging and control cost you double! Positivity and kindness are always a worthy investment.
  • Be realistic. Everyone gets worn out and that’s ok! You are not failing but on the journey to better understanding where you need to be and who you need to be with most!
